We have two dogs in our apartment. The other day I came home to find a very large quantity of dog mess spread all over a good portion of the living room. I guess they were upset about something!

In any case, despite my best efforts, I was unable to get the stains removed. I had used Fountain Hills Carpet Cleaning’s services before, and I have always heard good things about them. I called Tom Uhlenberg, and he was able to schedule an appointment without much delay. The result? My carpet looked (and smelled) better than it did BEFORE the dog mess.

We have also used Tom’s services for tile and grout cleaning, as well. If you have ever tried to do it yourself to save a few bucks, you would understand why it actually pays to bring in a pro with the right equipment to do the job.

Fountain Hills Carpet Cleaning gets our stamp of approval! Thanks!

I recently was watching a tv commercial that advertised a steam cleaning vacuum cleaner from a very reputable vacuum manufacturer. This vacuum has a steam cleaner attached to it and they show this extremely dirty carpet and they show it making passes as it is getting the carpet clean. It looks like they sprinkled some dirt on the carpet, then they show you how well it works, unfortunately, consumers don’t install new carpet, then the same day sprinkle some dirt on it and call a professional cleaner. The people behind the commercial have left out some extremely important details. The ad seems convincing, but the proof is in the pudding, and this pudding is going to be weak, and vanilla lol. Consumers clean their carpets when they are dirty and the dirt has adhered to the carpet fiber. We use top of the line, van mounted steam cleaning equipment, and top of the line cleaning products, and I can personally guarantee you, that if you think you can get dirty carpet clean by purchasing a vacuum/steam cleaner for a few hundred dollars at the store you are wasting your money. There are many differences in carpet cleaning equipment, some terrible, some average, and then you have the best, you want to go with the best to get your carpets as clean as possible. Fountain Hills Carpet Cleaning has an A+ rating with the BBB, we know how to get your carpets as clean as possible!

To prolong the life of your carpet there are some crucial things you should do, such as, vacuum it weekly, and have it professionally cleaned at least yearly, if not more, depending on foot traffic, animals, etc. Not only will cleaning your carpet help to prolong the life of it, but it will also help keep your house free of germs, allergens, and bugs, bugs like dirty environments. The longer the dirt stays on the carpet the more opportunity it has to bond to the carpet fiber, or it can also seep into the dye receptors that did not get filled with dye when the carpet was manufactured. When carpet is manufactured they color it through the microscopic dye receptors, and even the best carpet has 30% or so of the receptors that did not get filled with dye. You paid a lot of money to get your new carpet, not to mention the fact that you had to move all your stuff off the carpet to another location. If you maintain your carpet properly you can get 10-12 years of life out of it, or maybe even 5 or ten more years beyond that. My carpet in my house is 16 years old and looks great, although sooner or later the carpet fiber is going to get worn out in the traffic lanes, and there is nothing you can do about that. I would also suggest when you have it professionally cleaned that you have Scotchgard applied. This makes it so the dirt, dust, allergens, stains, and other foreign matter cannot bond to the carpet fiber, also more of the foreign matter will be picked up by the vacuum, and it will come cleaner when you have it professionally cleaned, thus prolonging the life of your carpet. Scotchgard also fills in the dye receptors that didn’t get filled with dye at the time it was manufactured, if you don’t fill in the dye receptors with Scotchgard they will fill in with dirt, dust, allergens, etc. and you don’t want that. Every time you clean your carpet you should apply Scotchgard, even if your carpet has been treated with Scotchgard when it was manufactured. If you read the back of the manufactures label on the back of the carpet they suggest you apply Scotchgard each time you clean it, as the high heat used in the steam cleaning process strips the old Scotchgard off.

Most of the damage I am referring to is when the cleaners pull the vacuum hoses or solution hoses around the corners of the walls which either chip off the paint or transfers the color of the hoses to the corners of the wall. We are extremely careful and never pull any cords around the corners. We take pride in doing excellent work, and always try to exceed the customers expectations. Almost all the work we get is through referrals, so we want to make sure we do an excellent job, so the referral keep coming in. We also want to make sure the customers are throughly satisfied. We take care of your home as if it was our own. We have an A+ rating with the BBB and we are very proud of that, and have worked diligently to earn that rating.

Many companies offer a service called sanitizing. They always want to charge you extra for this, usually the going rate is .25 cents a square foot. They have a great pitch where they tell you it will sanitize the carpet and takes all the germs out of the carpet, or some similar sort of pitch. Don’t be fooled by this, all this means is they are using hot water in the extraction method, all reputable carpet cleaning companies should be doing this automatically, without any extra charges. Our truck mounted steam cleaning equipment takes cold water and heats it to the desired amount of heat we want, we usually heat the water to about 210 degrees, and this of course will sanitize your carpet. All companies that use van mounted steam cleaning equipment should be using hot water in the extraction process, if their equipment is fairly new and regularly maintained.

Wool rugs are made of a natural fiber, this fiber comes from sheep. There are many different types of wool, you can have 100% wool, wool blends, etc. and there are many different ways there rugs are made, some are hand-made, some are machine-made. Some are hand tied or knotted some are machine tied or knotted. Some are extremely delicate, some are more durable. Some are fairly inexpensive, some are extremely expensive.

What it all comes down to is how you care for your rug. You want to hire an expert in wool rugs, I consider myself to be and expert, but that is not to say I know everything, I am always learning. One thing I am an expert in, is the cleaning and care of oriental rugs.

The cleaning process:

It is very important that you never put an alkaline cleaner on a wool rug, if you do, it will immediately dull the colors, in essence, ruining your rug. These rugs can not take the same cleaning process as your regular nylon residential carpet. You also want to make sure you use a low pressure and low heat. Another crucial step in the process is the dry time, you want to dry them as quick as possible, we use big blowers, to dry them out in a matter of a few hours. You also want to have them properly wrapped, so no dirt or other foreign matter adhere to them while returning them to the customer.

Some wool rugs will bleed, we have a dye lock process we use to make sure this doesn’t happen. I would suggest putting Scotchgard on your wool rug, this acts like a raincoat for your rug. Scotchgard protects from the inside out. It makes it so that dirt, dust, stains, etc. cannot bond to the wool fibers. We use a Scotchgard specially designed for wool rugs. Using Scotchgard will make your rug last longer, more of the dirt, dust, etc, will be vacuumed up, therefore, it will not be able to bond to the fibers, making it last as long as possible.

If you spill something on your wool rug, try to get it up with a 100%, white, cotton, cloth. Put the cloth on the stain and put as much pressure as possible to try to lift the stain out. Also, don’t add water to the stain to try to remove it, this will only drive the stain deeper, also don’t use a store-bought product, such as, Spot Shot, Resolve, etc. these will usually set the stain in forever.

Industry standards suggest you should have your rug cleaned at least every year. Since this is a natural fiber it is more porous, which means, dirt, dust, etc. will bond to it much easier than a residential synthetic carpet. You also want to vacuum your rug weekly. We offer pick up and delivery of your rugs.

There are a million different carpet cleaners out there, some good, some bad, some horrible. I meet a lot of different people in different businesses, and from time to time people will tell me they are the best at what they do. I then ask them what makes them better than the rest, and they usually have a hard time answering this question, it leads me to believe they are only the best in their own minds and not others lol. In oder to be the best, you are going to have to distinguish yourself from the rest, there are many ways to do this, depending on what sort of business you specialize in. Since I am in carpet cleaning we will talk about that profession, but you can probably apply many of my techniques to other businesses across the board.

How we have distinguished ourselves from the rest: First we have top of the line equipment, and we use the best cleaning products on the market. Using the best products will separate yourself from some, but lets face it, we are not the only ones using the same equipment and cleaning products.

First lets discuss the proper procedures for effective carpet cleaning specified by the cleaning industry. You should first pre spray the entire carpet, many companies don’t do this extremely important step. Pre spray is designed to break down all the dirt, stains, dust, allergens, particulate matter, etc. so it can be extracted out of the carpet. The next step is the extraction process, this is where you are putting down an emulsion mixed with extremely hot water, about 200 degree water. The last step is a dry pass, this step takes as long to perform as the extraction process, and unfortunately, most companies don’t do this step. They think it’s Arizona, it’s a dry climate, the carpet dries fast, but the main reason for this step is to make sure you are extracting everything from the carpet, the spots, stains, dirt, allergens, particulate matter, etc. and you are also leaving no residue behind. This step is very important in making sure dirt, dust, stains, allergens, particulate matter, etc. do not wick back to the top of the carpet as it dries. Most companies buy pre made pre spray, these work fairly well, but we came up with a technique by combining two cleaning products together that is the most effective cleaning approach out there. By applying these techniques we have separated ourselves from the pack.

We also realize that customer service is one of the most important aspects of running a successful business. You have to cater to your customers needs, You have to exceed their expectations. We have a policy we abide by, we realize sometimes tough stains wick back to the top, this is very rare, but in the case it happens, we will come back out for free and fix any mistakes we have made. We want to hear from our customers to get their feedback, so if there is a problem, we will correct it in the future. If the customer is not happy with the cleaning we will come back out and clean it for free. We also do whatever it takes to get the carpet clean, if it takes multiple passes to get a traffic lane clean, that’s what we do.

Unfortunately, all companies are not created equal. We feel bad when we receive calls from customers that received lousy cleaning from another company. The customer is expecting to pay for a great job, and if some company gives them less than that, they should be ashamed of themselves, as it sheds a bad light on the industry as a whole. I am sure everyone has had a lousy job of carpet cleaning performed, one sign of this is when the guy finishes and you say wow the carpet looks great, then the next day the carpet looks terrible. What happened, as the carpet dried the stains, dirt, particulate matter, etc, wicked back to the top, this means the company you hired missed crucial steps in the cleaning process. Unfortunately, many companies bring in their equipment, turn the machine on, and start cleaning, they do no prep work, which leads to a disastrous job, that leaves the customer with a bad taste in their mouth. Now you have to repay to clean it the right way. I want the customer to get the best cleaning experience possible, that’s what you get when you hire Fountain Hills Carpet Cleaning. We get most of our business from referral and that lets us know we are performing the best job possible! We take our time, are very meticulous, and make sure everything is perfect, so the customer wants to invite us back to their residence in the future.

I have seen a lot of different types of equipment over the years, some should have been retired decades ago. Often times I see a nice, shiny van, that looks professional, then I inquire further, by poking my nose in to see what kind of equipment they are using, sometimes it’s very old and cannot perform the job properly. Our vans look professional, and they contain top of the line carpet cleaning equipment. I have also noticed some vans are extremely under stocked in cleaning products. We alway have our van stocked to the hilt, with top of the line cleaning products, to make sure we can clean whatever we encounter. Just because a van looks real nice on the outside doesn’t always mean it’s the same on the inside. It’ s kind of like buying a car, you notice a car that looks great on the outside, perfect paint, no dents, etc. then you open the doors and notice there are holes in the seats, the door panel is missing, and it has 200,000 miles on the odometer. You have been fooled by the initial appearance, like they say, the proof is in the pudding, or stuffing. Even with brand new equipment there are different grades, you can buy the cheap model, or the most expensive model, we always invest in the best.

Some companies use portable carpet cleaning machines, like a rug doctor that plugs into your wall. This is not going to get your carpet very clean, when you hire someone, you expect to get the best job possible, that’s what you get at Fountain Hills Carpet Cleaning.

You also want to make sure you hire someone who has the expertise and knowledge to perform all steps of the cleaning process properly. Many of the bigger franchise companies employees only last a few weeks, as there is constant turn over, therefore, they usually don’t have the knowledge to perform all the cleaning steps properly, which means your carpet may not be coming as clean as it should.

Water damage, and floods, can be very destructive to you carpet, and your drywall. Mold sets in 72 hours after the water has been on the carpet, drywall, etc. Molds can be very dangerous, and toxic, to humans and pets, depending on what type of mold sets in. Saatchi Boutrous can make people extremely sick, and may even kill them. Fountain Hills Carpet Cleaning deals with some water extraction issues, depending on the severity of the problem. If you have a severe problem, where the water has been sitting there for a few days, and the water has seeped into the baseboards, you should call your insurance company.

Fountain Hills Carpet Cleaning deals with small amounts of water, such as, a water heater leak, leaky toilet, etc. We will be truthful with you, and give you our advice of what we would do if it was our place. I will tell you, sometimes it is better to just replace the carpet and the pad, than to try to suck up the water, remedy the mold, etc. especially if you have a small area such as, 200 square feet or so. I mean, you can replace 200 square feet of carpet for about $500, depending on the quality of carpet, so that sometimes makes more sense. The problem with water extraction is, not only do you have to suck up the water, but you also have to clean and treat the carpet, this can cost anywhere from $300 to $600 so you might as well just get new carpet, that way you have the comfort of knowing that you are not going to be faced with problems, such as, the carpet still smells musky, etc. then you have spent a bunch of money, and now you have to spend more money to replace the carpet. We are not a restoration company, and if you have a severe problem you will need to get your insurance company involved to clean up the mess, replace the drywall, get the mold out, etc. We can help you, if you have a small problem, or give you our honest opinion, of what to do, so that you are not taken advantage of.
